Tyco card edge connectors offer press-fit connections

Tyco Electronics, a business segment of Tyco International Ltd, presented its next-generation AMP PACE card edge connectors that accept 0.054-inch to 0.070-inch daughtercards.

The connectors, based on 0.254-by-0.508cm centerlines, target computer boards, communication equipment, industrial controls and machinery as well as test equipment and instrumentation applications.

A key feature is eye-of-the-needle contacts that accommodate simple, solder-free press fitting into a printed circuit board. Since this product is flat-rock compatible, no special tooling is required.

The connectors are available in 10 to 60 dual-position sizes and have the same overall dimensional size as current AMP PACE connectors. The contacts are rated for 3A and 1,000Vac withstanding. The housing is molded from glass-filled polyester while the contacts are phosphor bronze with nickel underplating and select gold finish. Contact insertion averages 7lbs per contact.

An 18-dual connector is priced at 92 cents each and a 55-dual connector is priced at $2.81, both in quantities of 100,000. Delivery is typically seven weeks.
