Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) and On2 Technologies Inc. announced that On2 VP6.2 video compression software codec will be ported to ADI's Blackfin processor family. The move is anticipated to allow customers to decode VP6.2 video streams and files on set-top box and portable media devices that are powered by Blackfin processors.

According to ADI, the Blackfin processor is a new breed of embedded processors designed specifically to meet the computational demands and power constraints of today's embedded audio, video and communications applications. The Blackfin processor family combines a 32-bit RISC-like instruction set with 16-bit dual multiply accumulate (MAC) signal processing functionality and ease-of-use attributes found in general-purpose microcontrollers.
