Trio Security Inc., developer of a three-factor, secure sign-in product for mobile devices, has been acquired by Symbol Technologies Inc.

Company founder Mance Harmon and two other developers will move to San Jose to join Symbol's mobility software division.

Harmon, a former instructor at the Air Force Academy, developed a method for integrating authentication keys, passwords and additional factors such as biometric parameters, in an integrated sign-in process. Trio's Vault software is designed to fit within the power and memory constraints of handheld devices, though it can be used in enterprise clients.

No terms were disclosed, though Trio was a five-person operation when Symbol made its offer. Scott Carmack, who recently took over from Harmon as CEO to move the company to further funding rounds, will remain here to manage Red Echo Corp., a consultancy for startups.
