Freescale Semiconductor Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Inc., is providing manufacturers with a single source ZigBee-Ready platform. This comprehensive, scalable solution is engineered to reduce the amount of time and money customers spend developing with multiple suppliers and offer support from one company. ZigBee technology from Freescale enables wireless products for a variety of monitoring, automation, and control applications in the home, industrial, and health related environments.

The low cost 13192DSK-A00 developer starter kit (DSK) can be ordered today. This platform tool contains the hardware, software, and documentation necessary to quickly implement efficient wireless designs. The ZigBee-ready platform includes the MC13192 2.4GHz RF data modem, IEEE 802.15.4 compliant media access control (MAC) software, and a low voltage, low power HCS08 MCU. It is also designed to support the Z-Stack ZigBee software developed by Figure 8 Wireless, for a robust, cost effective, and easy to deploy solution. Complementing the platform is the MC13191 2.4 GHz RF transceiver with simple media access control (SMAC) software for proprietary point-to-point or star networks.

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) benefit from Freescale's 2.4GHz solution because it allows them to design one product for use in multiple countries, speeding time to market. On-chip features and enhancements reduce external components and total bill of materials cost while providing battery type flexibility with lifetimes of months or years.

Freescale, a company dedicated to developers for more than 50 years, is going beyond offering RF ICs, MAC and ZigBee software. MCUs, Sensors, and the award-winning CodeWarrior integrated development environment (IDE) from Metrowerks are also available to developers. Along with these Freescale is providing, reference designs with layout files and antenna examples " all of which reduce the need for RF layout expertise, simplify procurement and help speed time to market.

The MC13191 and MC13192 are scheduled for July 2004 availability. Suggested resale pricing is $2.28 at 10K quantities for the MC13191 and $2.70 at 10K quantities for the MC13192. The 13192DSK-A00 developer starter kit is orderable today at a suggested resale price of $199.
