MaXXan Systems Inc. claims that it has developed the industry's first intelligent SAN switch scalable to 256 ports in a single-chassis and up to 512 ports in a dual-chassis configuration without the need for Inter-Switch Links (ISL) that reduce SAN performance, allowing the full 512 ports to be configured and managed as a single intelligent fabric.

"In the past, while the industry discussed the imminence of intelligence in the fabric, our team at MaXXan released the first evidence of it," said CTO Mike Witkowski. "We now find ourselves once again at the forefront of this technology with the MXV500, a higher-performance and higher-function iteration that represents the new reality of storage networking."

Like the company's previous generation of intelligent storage networking products, the MXV500 eliminates the need to deploy storage applications on host servers, independent appliances or array controllers. Its design reduces operating expenses and overall management costs by centralizing the deployment and management of applications such as virtualization, data replication, snapshot, mirroring, NAS and virtual tape to a heterogeneous IT environment.

During the Storage World, MaXXan also demonstrated its NAS solutions (SG110 and SG210) with integrated Microsoft Windows Storage Server software, and its virtual tape systems (SVT100 and SVT200) powered by IPStor VirtualTape Library software from FalconStor, that minimizes the cost of enterprise storage by utilizing existing backup servers and software.

The SG210 and SVT200 application cards integrate into the MXV500 for data center implementation, and the SG110 and SVT100 are standalone systems for mid-range environments or remote sites that do not need a switch or for integration with other existing SAN switches.
