Pulse cube inductors pack high power density in small package

Measuring less than 10mm high with low direct current resistance (DCR) and high saturation current, the new Pulse PG0200 power cube inductors target desktop PCs with T-socket processors. Applications include servers, multi-phase voltage regulator modules (VRMs), dc-to-dc converters, and other point-of-load applications.

The Pulse power cube inductor series has a high power density of 426?J per cubic centimeter in a 16-by-13.2-by-9.2mm maximum package. The inductors use a shielded E-core package, which provides excellent heat dissipation and superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, said the company, and offers lower DCR than toroidal inductor packages, which improves the overall system efficiency. These characteristics are suitable for the latest VRMs powering faster microprocessors.

Rated at 19A to 45A, the PG0200 inductors have a high current saturation capability up to 60A. They also feature a low DCR from 0.60 milliohms to 3 milliohms maximum and tighter open circuit inductance values from 0.22?H to 1.8?H with tolerances of 15 percent that provide higher efficiency and fast transient response. The operating temperature range is -40C to 125C.

Available in trays, pricing for the inductors average 25 cents per unit for quantities above 100,000. Individual part pricing may vary due to volume, configuration, and shipping destination. Samples are available.
