Eazix Inc., the design service and ODM arm of IMI, launched the EZGPM01 Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver that can be embedded with ease into consumer electronics products, telematics devices and other electronics devices to enable location-based services (LBS).

President and CEO Arthur R. Tan said, "The LBS market presents many opportunities for growth across applications in mobile computing, consumer electronics, automotive systems and wireless communications, as more OEMs offer higher value services, such as user location-based information to their customers as a way of differentiating their products."

Enabling high sensitivity tracking capability through highly accurate position and speed signal acquisition, the compact module is based on the SiRFstar IIe/LP chipset, which, according to Eazix, is the best solution in the market for low power, low cost and high performance GPS.

The new GPS receiver comes in a fully shielded small dimension package of 25.4-by-25.4-by-3mm, designed for easy integration into mobile devices such as PDAs, cellular phones and telematics solutions. It operates on low power consumption and supports easy application development.

Through standard frames, the device provides position, altitude, velocity and time data via a serial interface to the host, allowing the system to generate positioning, navigation, fleet-tracking and asset-tracking information.

Chicho Mantaring, Head of Platform Development, said, "In the future everything that is mobile, including electronic mobile solution as well as commercial and private vehicles will have positioning, tracking and navigational capabilities, and with the Eazix GPS module we are able to offer our OEM customers a fast and reliable embedded solution."
