Winbond Electronics Corp. is considering Nanya Technology Corp. as its 1T SRAM partner. It has also approached ProMOS Technologies and Semiconductor Mfg Int. Corp. The company will be announcing its decision this September.

According to Nanya executives, the two companies have already discussed production at Nanya's 8-inch wafer fab, which will enable the company to access communications-chip production.

Winbond's robust orders for its 1T SRAM chips have prompted the company to seek partners for production. Japan's NTT DoCoMo has already placed orders for 128 million chips. Last month, Winbond churned out over 20,000 units. Among its 1T SRAM product lines are 32M and 64M chips.
