Xeltek has collaborated with leading distributors to implement an online device support search engine that's directly accessible from distributors' websites. The tool allows engineers to rapidly identify which Xeltek Superpro Universal Programmer and universal programming adapters are required to support their desired devices. The search results are delivered in seconds and the user never has to leave the distributor's website. The user can complete the programmer ordering process with complete confidence that the correct programmers and adapters have been selected.

The device search engine is accessible through North American broad line distributors Digikey Corp. and Newark InOne and programmer specialty distributor General Device Instruments as well as Xeltek's own website. It will eventually be rolled out to the company's entire worldwide distribution network.

"Device support is a primary concern for engineers when researching a universal programmer purchase," said Jeff Goldberg, Xeltek's director of sales and marketing. "Based on the users device support criteria, this tool identifies a range of programming solutions the user can choose from according to their desire for advanced features such as USB connectivity, standalone operation with CF cards and ultra-fast programming speed."

Many engineers begin their programmer search by visiting distributor websites or reviewing catalogs to see what's available. However, the product descriptions typically don't contain enough information to determine which programmers and programming adapters are required to program the device of interest.

Engineers end up visiting the programmer manufacturer's website and painstakingly searching through device support lists to determine which programmers support their chosen devices. Then, after the programmer is selected, a second search is often required to determine which adapters are required to support the device package. Often times, many phone calls take place over the course of several hours between the engineer, the programmer distributor and programmer manufacturer before a final determination is made and the products can be ordered.

"Xeltek is the first of any of our programmer vendors to implement such a tool," said Josh Mickolio, programmer product specialist for Digikey Corp. "Most customers look at devices lists before purchasing a programmer and this will definitely reduce the decision making time."

"With the introduction of this system, Xeltek has made it much easier for our customers to identify which programmers support the latest flash memories, microcontrollers and programmable logic used in their converged consumer products," said Gavin Kirk, senior product manager for semiconductors at Newark InOne. "Research that would take an hour or more out of a busy engineer's day is now reduced to a few minutes."

The search engine identifies each programmer/adapter combination that supports the desired device and package type. The results are linked to online product descriptions and photographs. By making the device support search engine accessible available from distributor websites, Xeltek and it's distributors enable engineers to complete their research and order a high performance universal programmer within minutes.

"Xeltek understands that many customers begin choosing a programmer by researching device support," stated Ron Coursey, owner of General Device Instruments, a specialty distributor of universal programmers. "This system makes it very easy for my customers to identify which Xeltek programmers support their devices and which programming adapters should be ordered for their high pin-count surface-mount packages."
