Siliconix regulator has stable 3.3V output

Siliconix Inc. announced that its latest buck-boost regulator offers designers a simple, low-cost solution for obtaining a stable voltage from the batteries in portable electronic systems.

The new Vishay Siliconix SiP1759 provides a stable 3.3V fixed output or 2.5V to 5.5V variable output voltage with a 1.6V to 5.5V input voltage range. It offers a 100mA guaranteed output current, as well as 60?A quiescent current and <1?A current in shutdown mode. According to the company, the device's 1.5MHz operating frequency helps to reduce capacitor size. Foldback short circuit protection reduces power dissipation and battery current drain and a soft-start feature limits inrush current to avoid stressing components as the system powers up. An open-collector digital power-OK output pin signals when the output is out of regulation.

Designed for equipment using Li-ion, NiMH or alkaline batteries, the regulator IC is targeted for use in digital cameras, PDAs, MP3 players, camcorders, cellphones and drivers for flashlights using white LEDs.

Housed in a 10-pin MSOP package, the SiP1759 measures 4.9-by-3-by-1.1mm and requires only three compact external ceramic capacitors. Samples and production quantities are already available, with lead times of 8 to 12 weeks for larger orders.
