Avaya Inc. announced that it is purchasing audio conferencing equipment developer Spectel for about $103 million.

Based in Andover, Massachusetts, Spectel develops both hardware and software platforms for voice and web conferencing applications. In business for more than 20 years, Spectel has about 210 employees and offices in Dublin, Ireland, Andover, Massachusetts and other strategic locations. The company also has more than 500 customers globally.

Once the acquisition is complete, Spectel's product line will be integrated with Avaya's existing conferencing solutions. Additionally, Avaya plans to integrate Spectel's technology with its IP communications application suite.

"We've worked with Spectel for years and we've implemented their solution in our own operations," said Don Peterson, chairman and CEO of Avaya.

Avaya is buying Spectel in an all-cash deal. The transaction is expected to close within 60 days and is subject to regulatory approval, Irish laws, and customary closing conditions.
