Vishay IR emitters improve optical efficiency

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. disclosed that its two new infrared (IR) emitters are optimized with an 850nm wavelength to improve the optical efficiency of CMOS camera illumination systems compared with industry-standard 870nm emitters.

Designed for CMOS cameras and high-speed IR data transmission applications, the high-speed, high-radiant power devices each have a 20ns rise time and 1.8V maximum forward voltage.

For applications where maximum radiant power and intensity are required, Vishay offers the TSHG6200 in the leaded T 1-3/4 package. Radiant intensity is 180mW/sr at a forward current of 100mA, while the 5mm package provides a 10 angle of half intensity.

Meanwhile, the TSMG3700 is suitable for applications where a device with a wider angle of intensity is preferred. Housed in a miniature PLCC-2 SMD package, the surface-mount emitter combines a 60 angle of half intensity with a radiant intensity of 10mW/sr and is easily mounted to PCBs using automatic placement equipment.

Samples of the Pb-free devices are available. Production quantities are scheduled in the Q3, with lead times of 12 weeks for larger orders.
