Wipro Technologies, the software services division of India's Wipro Ltd, has licensed its IEEE 1394 audio-video link (Avlink) software stack to Zoran Corp., a provider of digital solutions-on-a-chip for applications in the growing markets of digital entertainment and digital imaging.

The licensing is backed up with customization support and the Avlink software stack includes the Avlink driver and bus manager, FCP/CMP, AV/C general command set, AV/C HDD sub-unit and camcorder sub-unit.

The rising use of digital television sets, digital video recorders, digital set-top boxes and camcorders has made connectivity of these devices a challenging task, but IEEE 1394 has merged as the next-generation interface for peripheral products at home to provide consumers a wholesome experience, said Ramesh Emani, president, embedded and product engineering solutions, Wipro Technologies.

Wipro's connectivity solutions include IEEE 1394, USB, Ethernet and WLANs. In IEEE 1394, Wipro has intellectual property consisting of both 1394a and 1394b link layer and physical layer cores and its IEEE 1394 software has been ported to Wipro's own IP cores and to off-the-shelf 1394 chips including those from Texas Instruments and Fujitsu.
