The latest report from IMS Research, entitled "The Worldwide Market for Power Supplies and Semiconductors in Power Supplies," highlights the importance of Asia as both a sales and production location for power supply manufacturers. The report also predicts that the market in Asia will grow faster than the market in either EMEA or the Americas to 2010.

Over the last decade there has been a gradual trend for suppliers of electronic equipment to move production off-shore to low cost countries such as China. This has resulted in a corresponding shift of power supply sales to such regions. Continued migration to China is forecast, but other Asian countries such as Indonesia and India (with low labor costs and a large, often well educated population) also offer the prospect of substantial growth in power supply sales.

Although Asia is estimated to have accounted for a considerable 43 percent of global power supply sales in 2003; it is estimated to have accounted for almost 70 percent of power supply production.

Senior analyst and report author Jon Cropley, commented, "As well as being the largest market and the largest production location for power supplies, Asia is also home to nine of the top fifteen power supply manufacturers. During the rest of the decade, Asia's share of both global power supply sales and global power supply production is only likely to increase."
