Zetex ICs offer adjustable dc-dc conversion

Zetex Semiconductors, a provider of analog signal processing and power management solution, launched two new PFM inductive boost converters that offer an adjustable dc-dc converter solution.

According to Zetex, the ZXLD1601 and ZXLD1615 ICs deliver higher component integration and smaller packaging, providing designers with a significant reduction in PCB size. They also produce an output voltage up to 28V from standard battery sources in the range of 2.5V to 5.5V.

"While the maximum converter output voltage is set by an internal resistor network, it is readily adjusted to a lower value using an external resistor network, a PWM control signal applied to the enable pin, or a combination of the two," explained David Slack, managing director of Zetex (Asia) Ltd. "By reducing the output voltage, an output current of up to 250mA is attainable."

Reduces component count, extends battery life

To help reduce external component count, both converters include a 30V rated NDMOS switch and a peak current sensor, and can generate an output current of up to 10mA at the maximum output voltage. An internal PWM filter is also incorporated to ensure the output is flicker free. And to further extend the battery life of portable equipment, the devices consume a low standby current of 60?A and feature a shutdown function that reduces this current to less than 100nA in the off state.

Capable of achieving a typical efficiency of 85 percent, these latest additions to the ZXLD product family use miniature, low-profile packaging to keep PCB space requirements to a minimum. The ZXLD1601 is provided in the 2.1-by-2-by-1.1mm SC70, while the ZXLD1615 in the 3.1-by-3.2-by-1mm TSOT23-5.
