Applied Nanotech has entered into a research and development agreement with Alps Engineering, a Japanese equipment manufacturer, to expand the usage of current equipment designed and produced by Alps Engineering to various nanotechnology applications.

The R&D effort is being focused on Alps Engineering's micro-blast machine, a "sand blast" piece of equipment currently used in manufacturing flat panel displays, silicon chips and the patterning of various substrates such as glass, carbon and ceramic.

ANI has installed a fully operational nano-blast machine at its facilities in Austin to be used for research and development and to also function as an experimental center for expanding the nano-blast processes to other interested companies.

The collaboration between the companies has already resulted in a new activation process for the production of carbon nanotube TVs. The results were presented at the Finetech conference in Tokyo in June 2004.

The agreement also makes ANI the exclusive representative for Alps Engineering in North America and Europe.

ANI is a subsidiary of Nano-Proprietary Inc., a holding company based in Austin, Texas. Alps Engineering Co. Ltd designs and manufactures flat panel and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
