Fairchild optocoupler provides 5kVrms isolation voltage

The new low input current logic gate optocoupler from Fairchild Semiconductor provides an isolation voltage of 5kVrms over a wide power supply voltage range.

According to the company, the high common mode rejection (CMR) of 1kV/?s and hysteresis output allows the FOD2200 to deliver optimum performance for high-speed applications in noisy industrial environments. The device's 1.6mA (min.) IF and 4.5V to 20V VCC range not only lowers power consumption but also makes it compatible with TTL, LSTTL and CMOS logic. Other features include electrical and switching characteristics guaranteed over a 0C to 85C range and a maximum propagation delay of 300ns.

The three-state output of the new optocoupler reduces additional circuit board components by eliminating the need for a pull-up resistor. Krish Ramdass, strategic marketing manager for Fairchild's Optocoupler Group, said that the three-state output, together with the hysteresis circuitry, allows the designer to drive data buses directly and eliminates the possibilities for output signal chatter. In high noise applications, the FOD2200 is effective for isolating high-speed logic interfaces and for buffering input and output lines.

Housed in a DIP-8 package, the product is available in three leadform options for either through-hole or surface-mount applications. Additional information is available online.
