Motorola Inc. has signed a licensing and distribution agreement with MeshNetworks Inc. to distribute MeshNetworks' broadband wireless radio products through its sales channels and resellers.

Motorola, already a major player in utility and public-safety markets, will sell the products as part of its broadband portfolio for government and public safety applications along with enterprise and utility customers.

MeshNetworks offers an adaptive mesh architecture that uses unlicensed 2.4GHz spectrum and quadrature division multiple access coding technology. Each radio in the network can serve as a router or repeater, making the network easier to scale.

MeshNetworks has won recent contracts from the Cocoa Beach Police and Orange County Fire Rescue departments. Motorola gains rights to integrate components from the MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture, including the MeshNetworks Positioning System and the MeshConnex software suite, into future data products developed at Motorola. These include a new 4.9GHz band allocated by the Federal Communications Commission for public safety applications.
