Taiwan makers reduce backlight module prices

Taiwan's LCD backlight module makers Coretronic Corp., Forhouse Corp. and Radiant Opto-Electronics Corp. plan on reducing their prices this month.

Forhouse intends to cut prices of its TFT-LCD backlight modules by 3 to 5 percent this month. The company added that it may drop its prices by 10 percent further this second half. It plans on increasing production yields and improving management to ease the effects of the price reduction.

Meanwhile, Coretronic spokesperson Cindy Wen says price reductions this quarter are unavoidable. She adds that the company will try to maintain its gross margins by cutting its production costs.
