Acterna announced the Asia-Pacific availability of its RSAM-5600 Remote Service Analyzer Meter and ISS-5116 Input Selector Switch, a test solution tool that provides remote testing and monitoring of QAM and analog RF signals.

"Frequent digital signal testing has never been more important to cable network managers as they focus on the rapid deployment of VoIP, video on demand and high-speed Internet access VoD, and HSD," explained Bill Robertson, VP of marketing and international sales for Acterna's Cable Networks Division.

According to a press release, the RSAM-5600 enables users to quickly isolate problems, compare field and headend results, as well as monitor service deployment in multiple remote sites by using a standard Internet browser or Acterna's own DSAM. The device is also claimed to be the first forward-path analyzer that provides interoperation with field meters, enabling field technicians to isolate and determine system issues without the intervention of headend technicians.

"The RSAM-5600 delivers cost efficiencies by reducing the need to drive to remote sites to test system integrity," Robertson added.

The integration of the RSAM-5600 and ISS-5116 supports the field technician's ability to troubleshoot, isolate and fix problems by giving them access to headend results in the field on their web-browser enabled DSAM meter. In addition, by integrating with existing OSS and NMS systems, the RSAM-5600's network management protocol SNMP alarming feature accelerates its ability to proactively monitor.
