Touted to be the world's thinnest ultra small tri-axis accelerometer module, the new sensor from Oki Electric Ind. Co. Ltd detects acceleration, inclination and vibration on a tri-axis.

According to the company, the ML8950 integrates the sensor chip and control IC allowing for the thinnest package to date. In addition to detecting the tri-axis (x, y and z) acceleration (3g), this new module can also detect inclination and impact shock as well as measure the degree of inclination and vibration.

The control IC chip is equipped with a signal amplification circuit, a control circuit, an ADC and a temperature compensating circuit. Oki also said that its new product is the first tri-axis accelerometer module to be equipped with a digital interface, omitting the need for an ADC on the equipment and enables the tri-axis accelerometer module to be easily embedded into digital equipment since it is directly connected to the CPU.
