Taiwan's optoelectronics industry to hit $29.9B

This year, the output value of the optoelectronics industry will hit $29.9 billion, going for a 38 percent jump from last year, according to the Opto-Electronics and Systems (OES) Laboratories of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) during a press conference in Tainan. The OES Lab also forecasts that the figure could rise to $36.7 billion in 2005 and $47.5 billion in 2006.

The OES Lab made the forecast at the Southern Taiwan Science Park's incubator center where it unveiled 20 different advanced technologies which OES Lab has developed in recent years.

At present, the industry focuses on LCDs. Production value of optical storage is also expected to hit over $29.4 billion by 2008.
