Clarity Visual Systems Inc. has announced a contract with InFocus Corp. to manufacture a 61-inch rear projection display, in line with a display development relationship the Wilsonville, Oregon, companies announced in March.

The display uses In-Focus's patented light engine and screen technology along with a microdisplay device currently using Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology. The InFocus light engine is also the foundation for the InFocus ScreenPlay microdisplay television introduced earlier this year.

"This new contract further solidifies our working relationship and ensures a method of quickly reaching and satisfying the demands of the growing market for large format thin displays," said Paul Gulick, Clarity's president and chief executive, in a statement.

In addition to manufacturing the rear-projection display for InFocus, Clarity will design and build its own branded ultra-thin rear-projection system, called Bengal. The 6.5- inch deep display is designed for digital signage and retail use.

The displays carrying both brands are expected to begin shipping by late 2004.
