Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech) introduced an LDO linear regulator with uP reset. According to the company, the high performance AAT3258 combines a 300mA LDO regulator with a low current uP reset in half the space of two discrete devices, minimizing board size for portable products such as cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras and notebook computers.

"Today's high performance portable products often employ multiple processors, controllers or DSPs to deliver the demanding feature sets customers require," shared Product Marketing Manager Erik Ogren. "By combining a microprocessor reset monitor and a 300mA LDO regulator in a single 3-by-2.85mm package, the AAT3258 significantly minimizes design footprint"

The new LDO linear regulator features a shutdown mode to extend battery life. Its dropout voltage is 400mV at full 300mA output, and its microprocessor reset section typically consumes 1?A of quiescent current and has an active low reset output. The device also has complete overcurrent/short circuit protection and overtemperature protection circuits for reliable operation in extreme operating conditions. AnalogicTech said that the LDO regulator output on the AAT3258 is optimized to function with low-cost, low ESR ceramic capacitors and supports operation over a wide range of capacitor types.

"With separate input pins, the AAT3258 also maximizes design flexibility by allowing designers to operate each function from independent sources, and more easily and efficiently configure their design," Ogren added.

The AAT3258 is qualified across the standard -40C to 85C industrial temperature range, and is available in an 8-pin TSOPJW package. Pricing starts at 76 cents per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
