FCI Communications announced that its new 78-way right-angled D-subminiature connectors with press-fit terminations enable designers to create higher density product designs without having to move to an alternative and less robust connector technology. The maximum pin count of this type of connector was previously 50.

Claimed to be the industry's first, the connectors occupy the same board space as 50-way versions and suitable to telecom and industrial applications. According to the company, its latest addition to its Compact D connector range helps avoid the cost and time of an additional wave solder process.

Arranged in four rows, the product's gold plated phosphor bronze contacts support a maximum current handling of 3A. The connector is rated for up to 500 mating/unmating cycles. Additional information can be found online.
