AnalogicTech converters suit space-constrained apps

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech) introduced two new, compact, high-efficiency step-down converters for space-constrained wired electronic equipment applications. Combining high frequency operation, low output ripple and full internal compensation, the new AAT1154 and AAT1155 buck dc-dc converters deliver 3A and 2.5A output current, respectively.

"In many wired desktop electronic applicationssuch as STBs, telecom equipment and computer peripheralsboard real estate is almost as important as in portable designs. Space saving is also a key concern in graphics cards, network cards, and other plug-ins," explained Product Marketing Manager Erik Ogren. "By using a 1MHz switching frequency to minimize the size of external components, maximizing efficiency, and integrating a complete internal compensation circuit, the AAT1154 and AAT1155 offer better performance than traditional switchers and save considerable board space in the process."

The new constant PWM mode converters offer up to 95 percent efficiency and support a maximum voltage input up to 5.5V. The AAT1154 and AAT1155 supply both a fixed and adjustable output over a 1V to 4.2V range. On both devices, an internal compensation circuit simplifies system design and minimizes external parts count. The two new converters also feature internal soft start, current limit, and over-temperature protection to maximize device reliability.

Both products are qualified across the standard -40C to 85C industrial temperature range. Housed in a SOP-8 package, the AAT1154 is priced at $1.22 per unit, while the AAT1155 converter, in an MSOP-8 package, starts at $1.18, both pricing for 1,000-piece quantities.
