Wintegra has released an upgraded version of its datapath software Monday (Sept. 20) for wireless infrastructure applications. At the same time, the startup processor developer said that Texas Instruments Inc. has tapped the WinPath application packet processor to handle the data management portion of an integrated voice and data (IVD) reference design.

Version 2.0 of the wireless software package is optimized third generation (3G) base station and radio network controller designs. Specifically, the software provides ATM, IP and Ethernet transport capabilities that support the 3GPP Iub interface, which is a standard interface between base stations and radio network controllers. This allows equipment manufacturers using a WinPath-based silicon and software platform to meet 3GPP's Iub specification.

The upgraded software runs on all WinPath devices and supports 150kpacket/s to 1Mpacket/s operation. In addition to Ethernet and ATM, this software supports IPv4/IPv6, UDP/IP, PPP, SS7 and header compression. The software is available now for systems running VxWorks or Linux.

On the TI front, Wintegra has landed a port for its packet processors on an IVD reference design optimized for broadband applications. This reference is developed around TI's AC7 central-office ADSL2+ chip and includes Wintegra's packet processor for handling uplink tasks. Uplinks supported include Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, OC-3 or OC-12.

Customers using the platform can also tap Wintegra's packet processors for transparent bridging or VLAN-enabled bridging. Bridging capabilities are enabled through Wintegra's datapath software.
