Motorola deploys cdma2000 1X Network in Bahia

Motorola Inc. has begun deployment of VIVO's cdma2000 1X network in Bahia, Brazil that will bring high-speed data service and Internet access to an estimated nine million people. The company's infrastructure will initially cover the Salvador metropolitan region and another 28 municipalities, with expansion planned to other cities in the state during the second half of this year.

Motorola also has deployed the carrier's cdma2000 1X networks in the states of Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, Goias, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins and Distrito Federal. The main VIVO service enabled by cdma2000 1X technology is VIVO Zap, Internet access via cellular phones, PDAs and laptops via PCMCIA cards.
