Business air travelers are now enjoying in-flight entertainment and connectivity at a quality that may surpass even their home entertainment systems, with Lufthansa Technik's networked integrated cabin management and entertainment system based upon a wide variety of ICs from Cirrus Logic Inc.

Lufthansa Technik provides maintenance, repair and overhaul of commercial aircraft, their engines and components, serving more than 450 airline and VIP customers worldwide. Its product, Nice (Networked Integrated Cabin Equipment), makes the operators' need for numerous separate networks to distribute on-board entertainment and control cabin functions obsolete.

Developed in part by one of Cirrus Logic's third-party designers, Videon Central, Nice's customized in-flight entertainment and "office-in-the-sky applications" rely on the Cirrus Logic CS4271 single-chip stereo CODEC, the CS98000 advanced DVD video processor and the CS98200 multi-functional digital video decoder chip.

Nice also incorporates the Cirrus Logic CS8952 Fast Ethernet transceiver to transmit digital signals throughout the cabin on various networks. Most recently, Videon Central added Cirrus Logic's new EP9301 ARM9-based embedded processor technology for personal control units in the passenger seats.
