Toshiba Module Group and Microtune Inc. have cooperated in the development of a production-ready, digital cable-ready TV tuner module. Based on Microtune's MicroTuner MT2111 single-chip tuner, Toshiba's module is a ready-to-manufacture RF subsystem that delivers quality picture and audio. It includes the required hardware and software for the critical RF reception and tuning of TV signals.

As a versatile subsystem, the module can easily be incorporated across various Toshiba TV product lines and models as a standard RF component. Toshiba's RF Module, containing Microtune's MT2111, is planned for deployment in nine of Toshiba's new projection HDTV models. The TV receivers are expected be available at retail in the U.S. The televisions recently achieved "verification" status by CableLabs for digital cable ready (DCR) products.

According to Microtune, the MT2111 tuner is part of he company's latest breed of silicon tuners targeted for next-generation TV applications. Fabricated in silicon germanium, the device is a complete dual-conversion analog/digital tuner that integrates all active RF components, including a low noise amplifier (LNA) and intermediate frequency (IF) amplifier on chip.
