Wind River Systems Inc. has revealed plans to support Freescale Semiconductor's future PowerQUICC III processors that are designed to offer serial RapidIO functionality. Through ongoing support for Freescale and as a member of the RapidIO Trade Association, the Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition, will support the standards that help companies develop and run high-performance device software applications.
RapidIO is an interconnect technology that is intended primarily as an intra-system interface, allowing chip-to-chip and board-to-board communications with performance levels ranging from one gigabit per second to 60 gigabits per second. Wind River will expand its support for high-speed interfaces, including RapidIO, in its Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition.
In addition, Wind River will support future Freescale PowerQUICC III processors with Serial RapidIO technology. Customers building applications that include interconnecting microprocessors, memory, and memory mapped I/O devices in networking equipment, storage subsystems, and general purpose computing platforms can benefit from Wind River's RapidIO support to develop and run their device software better, faster, at a lower cost and more reliably. |
