SBE Inc. has used a security processor from Cavium Networks to develop a security processing offload board for communication equipment that handles SSL and IPsec processing tasks.

The securePMC-L PCI mezzanine card (PMC) is developed around Cavium's Nitrox Lite processor. This processor, which is built using Cavium's GigaCipher core, handles RSA, IPsec, SSL and other security processing tasks while also providing on-chip support for IPv6.

The PMC board, which is currently available, supports up to 1Gbps bulk data encryption and hashing as well as 7,000 RSA operations. It is targeted at routers, switches, web servers, server load balances, firewalls, SANs and VPN gateways.
