Toshiba, Matsushita venture to make large TV displays

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., a joint venture between Toshiba Corp. and Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd, will commence large TV display production early next year. The venture, which previously manufactures only small and medium-sized panels, will output 32-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT-LCD panels.

Toshiba Matsushita Display is expected to use "Optically Compensated Bend" technology in making the LCDs to produce wider viewing angles and faster speed. The company aims to lead in the high-end electronics market.

Meanwhile, Toshiba, Matsushita and Hitachi Displays Ltd also made a joint venture which will manufacture large LCD panels for flat-screen TV receivers.
