Netgear has tapped Atheros' WLAN technology to develop a wireless router that operates in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and delivers a peak data rate of 108Mbps.

The wireless router simultaneously establishes two 108Mbps wireless streams: a 2.4GHz 802.11b/g stream and a 5GHz 802.11a stream, which is made up of 13 non-overlapping channels. The system also taps Atheros' eXtended Range (XR) technology, which drops receive sensitivity down to -105dBm in order to deliver increased throughput on the WLAN link.

To compliment the router, Netgear has released an 802.11a/g PC card. This card is also developed around an Atheros chipset and is equipped with the XR technology to achieve a 108Mbps data rate.

The router and PC card are already available. The router is priced at $129 while the PC card is offered at $79.
