South Korea-based TFT-LCD makers Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and Boe Hydis Technology Co. Ltd are reallocating their production capacities to pull up company profits.

Samsung already transferred most of its capacity from its two lower-generation production lines to small-to-medium-size panel production in the first half of this year. A 4G line will start making small-to-medium-size panels this month, with glass substrates measuring 730-by-920mm. The monthly capacity is expected to increase from four million to six million units; 90,000 units would be small- to medium-size panels.

Meanwhile, three of Boe Hydis' 4G plants at Ichon will switch to making TFT-LCDs applied in notebooks and tablet PCs. The company also plans to phase out its monitor panel manufacturing segment by mid-2005 when BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd in Beijing, China begins to mass produce LCD monitor panels early next year.
