Tektronix tools enable QLogic Fiber channel development

The Tektronix Communications Signal Analyzer (CSA8200) system of Tektronix Inc. has been selected by QLogic Corp. for the development of 4Gbps Fiber Channel products, as well as future projects. The 4G Fiber Channel products are expected to boost the performance of storage-area networks (SNA) QLogic's customers.

Demand for higher data bandwidth, compatibility with installed hardware and comparable cost is leading to rapid and widespread adoption of 4G Fiber Channel. QLogic is developing 4G Fiber Channel components, hard disk controller (HDC) chips, host bus adapters (HBA), and fabric switches. To support 4G Fiber Channel product development as well as other strategic development activities, the Circuits & Integration (C and I) Group within QLogic has selected a Tektronix suite of products consisting of CSA8200 sampling oscilloscope, 80C12 multi-rate broad wavelength optical sampling module and the 80A05 electrical clock recovery module.

"4G Fibre Channel is a critical business area for QLogic, and we have been looking for a test solution to support our current product development needs as well as supporting our needs for future product innovation," said Dean Wallace, QLogic C and director of engineering, and the vice-chair of the Electrical Working Group and chair of FCSM of the T11 Fiber Channel committee. "We evaluated several competitive offerings and determined that the Tektronix CSA8200 best augmented our existing characterization tool suite and offers a flexible solution to support our development and testing of 4G Fiber Channel components," Wallace added.
