Linear Tech dc-dc converter suits CCD imagers

The new dual channel (boost/inverter), 34V, 1.1MHz dc-dc converter from Linear Technology Corp. generates positive and negative outputs for biasing CCD imagers.

The LT3472 converter's internal 350mA/400mA, 36V switches can deliver up to 20mA at 15V, and 50mA at -8V from Li-ion batteries, providing bias for many CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) imagers. Additionally, the product's input voltage range of 2.2V to 16V enables inputs that range from Li-ion to multiple-cell Alkaline/NiMH batteries.

Switching at 1.1MHz, the LT3472 uses tiny, low profile capacitors and inductors, and generates low noise outputs that are easy to filter. Schottky diodes are internal and the output voltages are set with one resistor per channel, reducing external component count.

With internal sequencing circuitry

The LT3472 features internal sequencing circuitry that disables the negative channel until the positive channel has reached 88 percent of its final value. According to the company, this ensures that the sum of the two outputs is always positive. Separate soft-start capacitors for each output allow the ramp of each output to be independently controlled, Linear Tech added.

Housed in a 10-lead 3-by-3mm DFN package, the entire solution has a less than 1mm profile and occupies 50mm?. The LT3472EDD is available from stock, with prices starting at $1.95 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
