Freescale Semiconductor Inc. and Metrowerks Corp., both of Austin, have introduced a Linux Board Support Package (BSP) optimized for the mobileGT architecture and Total5200 Development Platform for automotive applications.

The BSP was specifically designed for the Freescale Digital, Audio, Radio and Telematics (DART) Division to help automotive OEMs and their suppliers incorporate Linux technology into next-generation navigation, telematics, handsfree phone, radio/telematics hybrids, infotainment and driver information system designs.

Developers can leverage the Metrowerks Linux BSP to create various networked automotive products capable of featuring integrated wireless, graphics, audio and GPS technology.

The BSP integrates with a broad range of Metrowerks products to provide Linux development solutions for the mobileGT architecture and Total5200 Development Platform that support the full development process, from board bring-up and Linux kernel-level debugging to applications creation and testing.

Metrowerks now offers the Linux BSP for the Freescale Semiconductor Total5200 Development Platform free of charge on its website.
