Atmel Corp. has licensed CEVA-X1620 DSP and CEVA-X System1100 Platform to power its next-generation storage applications. The latest licensing agreement extends Atmel's portfolio of CEVA IP, with Atmel having licensed previous generations of CEVA DSPs that are currently shipping in high volume.

Atmel's storage system-on-chip (SoC) products provide a broad and scaleable solution for customers designing storage products. They allow customers to focus on developing differentiated, value-added features for their storage products while reducing costs and time-to-market associated with developing the complete system in-house.

The CEVA-X System1100 provides Atmel with a platform to develop high-performance, power-efficient storage solutions. Additionally, the CEVA-X1620's scalable DSP architecture offers Atmel a migration path, reducing time-to-market and design costs for Atmel's future CEVA-X powered applications.

"Atmel's storage business unit leverages the performance and programmability of CEVA-X to develop a range of storage products across multiple markets, including networking and consumer multimedia, on a single architecture. The programmability of CEVA-X also gives us an upgrade path to high-level storage designs for HD DVD/TV, H.263 and other applications," said Mehdi Bathaee, general manager and managing director of Atmel's network storage business unit.
