Micrel has teamed with Linux software provider Arcturus and LSI Logic to develop a wireless VoIP router reference design for SoHo and small- to medium-sized business (SMB) applications.

The reference platform is developed around Micrel's KS8695PX Ethernet chip. This ARM9-based processor that handles routing functions and call processing, has a built-in managed 5-port Ethernet switch, and sports a PCI interface for linking up with wireless LAN (WLAN) chipsets.

In addition to the Ethernet chip, the reference platform includes LSI's 403LC ZSP voice processor. This processor supports G.711, G.723.1, G.726 and G.729AB voice codecs with up to 4 low bit rate voice ports.

Complimenting the hardware offers, the reference platform also features VoIP software developed by Arcturus. The Arcturus solution consists of the MIBflex software-development framework, which provides management, routing, and control functionality. The software also includes Arcturus' SIPstream software for voice and call processing tasks.
