Taiwan-based TFT-LCD maker Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) has announced plans to postpone the operation of its 7.5G TFT-LCD plant due to increasing components cost in the market.

CMO Vice President Wu Biing-Seng says that prices of components have not dropped since glass substrates increased. Likewise, prices of key components, such as backlight modules and polarizers, continue to surge upwards and are unlikely to stabilize soon. Makers are already suffering the burden of high costs since most of them absorb the impact of the hikes.

However, CMO will begin 5.5G production at its new plant with an initial monthly capacity of 10,000 units. It targets to reach a monthly capacity of 120,000 units by year-end 2005.
