The first triple amplifier touted to break the 1GHz amplifier barrier was recently announced by Intersil Corp.

Also claimed by the company to be the world's fastest, the EL5367 has a total supply current of 25mA, and has the ability to run from a single supply voltage from 5V to 12V. Offering high performance for little power consumption, the new product drives resolutions greater than QXGA (2,048 pixel x 1,536 pixel video graphics standard) at a gain of 2 for very high-speed video and monitor applications.

"This performance-leading triple amplifier is a direct response to our customers' requests for more performance with lower power," shared Sameer Vuyyuru, Intersil's director of marketing for High Speed Analog Products. "As our display partners strive towards ever greater resolutions, they can rely on Intersil to provide the silicon solutions they need."

The EL5367 is a current-feedback operational amplifier that offers a -3dB bandwidth of 1GHz and a supply current of 8.5mA per amplifier. Because of its current-feedback topology, the device does not have the normal gain-bandwidth product associated with voltage-feedback operational amplifiers, the press release said. With a gain of 2 bandwidths of 800MHz on all three channels, it will drive a double-terminated 75 ohm cable easily.

This combination of high bandwidth and low power, together with aggressive pricing make the EL5367 an ideal choice for many low-power and high bandwidth applications such as portable, handheld or battery-powered equipment used for high speed video and monitor applications, as well as a number of RF and IF frequency designs, added Intersil.

Available in 16-lead QSOP packaging, the EL5367 is priced at $2.99 in 1,000-unit quantities. For additional information on the EL5367 and Intersil's other op amp products, visit the company's website.
