Mentor Graphics Corp. and Xilinx have announced a collaboration in which Mentor will supply its PCB tool users with reference data allowing them to more easily implement the multi-gigabit transceiver (MGT) technology available in Xilinx FPGA on their printed circuit board (PCB) designs.

To ensure optimal multi-gigabit interconnect implementation, Mentor Graphics has teamed up with Xilinx to provide the Virtex-II Pro RocketIO MGT characterization board reference design for the PADS and Expedition product families.

The Virtex-II Pro RocketIO MGT Characterization Board (part# HW-V2P-ML321) allows customers to investigate and experiment with the features of the Virtex-II Pro Rocket I/O multi gigabit transceivers. Mentor provides a supporting design kit, which includes a reference PCB layout and a part library with symbols and footprints. Mentor also offers complimentary RocketIO signal integrity models for its HyperLynx and IC products.

The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro RocketIO MGT characterization board databases are available on Mentor's website.
