Zoran rolls out co-processor for feature-rich cellphones

Zoran Corp. rolled out last week a new co-processor for feature-rich cellphones.

The company's Approach 4C co-processor delivers MPEG-4 video capture and playback, H.264 video decoding, among other features. It also includes a 3Mpixel camera interface, MP3 and AAC+ playback at a lower system cost than competing chips, according to Zoran.

It is designed and optimized for power and space-constrained devices such as cellular phones, communicators and PDAs.

"It also has a smaller footprint and is a less expensive solution overall," said Coby Sella, VP, GM at Zoran's mobile division, in a statement.
