Symbol Technologies Inc. has introduced its next generation WS 2000 enterprise wireless switch and AP 300 802.11a/b/g wireless access port for small and medium businesses.

Symbol first unveiled the WS 2000 wireless switch earlier this year. The latest version of the WS 2000 adds support for site-to-site virtual private networks (VPN) and the 802.11i security standard (WPA2), incorporates load balancing, and supports 802.11 a/b/g as well as the global 802.11h standard.

The AP 300 access port supports 802.11a/b/g. The port enables enterprises to deploy a 54Mbps link rate with the ability to double the capacity to 108Mbps for applications such as high quality video streaming. It eliminates the need to run power cables or install new outlets because it receives power via existing Ethernet cables.

In addition, the AP300 supports virtual access points that cause each port to behave as eight independent access points, improving wireless device performance, increasing throughput and battery life and reducing overall network traffic.

List price for the WS 2000 is $999; the AP 300 costs $349.
