Hong Kong-based Solomon Systech Ltd recently announced that it has released its first single-chip TFT-LCD driver IC -- SSD1278 -- suitable for smart phone systems.

Claimed by the company to be the smallest and the simplest solution for QCIF+ resolution in the amorphous TFT display, the SSD1278 features 176-by-220 resolution, 262K colors as well as gate/source driver blocks and power management circuit. The chip performs faster data transfer when using the CMOS/CCD camera.

Solomon Systech's advanced design technology provides lower power consumption, with only 8mW at 262K color, 60Hz frame frequency and line inversion, and 7mW at frame inversion. Its compact die size of 20.9-by-1.4mm2 also reduces the smart phone's overall size.
