CPT predicts 9 percent TFT-LCD

Taiwan-based panel maker Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (CPT) expects supply of large-size TFT-LCD panels to surpass demand next year. According to CPT Chairperson and President Lin Cheng-hung, excess of supply of TFT-LCD panels may be experienced by the industry, from 6 percent this year to 9 percent next year.

Manufacturers are ramping up production capacities in their next-generation fabs, which would be the main reason for the oversupply. Lin adds that prices of LCD monitor panels will also experience a downward turn. Quotes for LCD monitor panels may have a $5 to $10 drop from its current $160.

CPT plans to cut production cost by producing materials in-house as well as asking for suppliers to lessen raw material quotes.
