RFMD transceivers, PA modules lower handset devices' BoM costs

RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) announced volume production shipments of its POLARIS Total Radio GSM/GPRS transceivers and pa module ups TRP in GSM/GPRS handsets" target=_blank>powerstar power amplifier (PA) modules for use in Motorola's MPx220 handset.
According to RFMD, its POLARIS transceivers and PAs, which are optimized to work together, lower BoM and extend battery life for feature-rich advanced multi-media wireless devices.
Alastair Upton, GM of the digital cellular product line at RFMD, said, "Our next-generation POLARIS transceiver offers handset manufacturers an important combination of proprietary features, including excellent receive sensitivity across all four bands, a fractional-N based modulation architecture that reduces transmit power consumption by 30 to 50 percent, digital baseband interfaces and superior levels of integration, all of which provide our customers lower BoM costs, simplified RF architecture and accelerated time to market."
