Cadence Design Systems Inc. has launched the Power.org, an open standards community, in cooperation with IBM. The reference flow is expected to help IC designers develop systems-on-chip (socs) using the IBM PowerPC architecture. The Power.org is dedicated to promoting the IBM PowerPC architecture as the preferred open-standard hardware-development platform for electronic systems for markets such as consumer electronics, networking, storage, military and automotive.

As part of its ongoing work with IBM, Cadence has developed a SoC reference design methodology around the PowerPC architecture using the Cadence Encounter digital IC design platform. Cadence has also developed for foundries a process-portable version of the PowerPC 440 core that has been validated on the TSMC 130-LV manufacturing process. To assist PowerPC customers in their design efforts, Cadence is providing worldwide technical-support services designed to support customers with PowerPC performance, architectural features, SoC integration and foundry flows.
