Silicon Laboratories Inc. and Helicomm have entered into a ZigBee joint development, and marketing agreement. Silicon Lab has also licensed Helicomm's ZigBee-based IP-Net networking software.

Complementing the agreement is Silicon Laboratories' global presence, customer base, 8051 microcontrollers and RF expertise. Helicomm adds its ZigBee networking software, extensive embedded networking experience, wireless module design and certification expertise, and wireless development tools.

The combination of Silicon Laboratories' CMOS chip expertise and global presence with Helicomm's networking software and FCC-certified modules are expected to provide the market with the broadest range of easy-to-use, standards-based wireless networking solutions available.

Helicomm president, Jack Sun, stated, "Our IP-Net ZigBee-based software and Silicon Laboratories' 8051-based MCUs will provide customers with the industry's leading low power, standards-based wireless networking platform."

The companies are demonstrating their integrated ZigBee mesh networking solution at the Q4 ZigBee alliance member meeting and open house in Seoul, South Korea.
